Gartner, and Microsoft, have done it again. This is the 12th year in a row that Microsoft has been recognized in a Gartner Magic Quadrant for their analytics and BI platform.
Per Gartner, “Modern analytics and business intelligence (BI) platforms are characterized by easy-to-use tools that support the full analytic workflow — from data preparation and ingestion to visual exploration and insight generation.” Products were reviewed per 5 use cases and 15 capabilities of an analytics and BI platform. Use cases published were:
- Agile, centralized BI provisioning
- Decentralized analytics
- Governed data discovery
- OEM or embedded analytics
- Extranet deployment
Regarding the data used in the publication, Gartner states that this Magic Quadrant refers to “composite measures of success” based on a survey of vendors’ reference customers. Reference customers scored vendors on a wide range of metrics, including Customer experience, operations, marketing understanding and more. Opinions from Gartner Peer Insights contributors were also factored in.
Out of 21 companies that show up on the Magic Quadrant, only 4 made it into the “Leaders” quadrant where Microsoft was way out front.
Learn about Power BI, one of Microsoft’s most powerful BI and analytics platforms
Microsoft Power BI is a suite of business analytics tools that allow companies to analyze data and share insights. It is BIG arrow that belongs in the quiver of both technical and non-technical users. The interface is easier to to figure out than other BI tools, especially for those familiar with Excel. But don’t let that fool you…it isn’t a toy.
Power BI can be simple and fast – capable of creating quick insights from an Excel spreadsheet or a local database. But Power BI is also robust and enterprise-grade, ready for extensive modeling and real-time analytics, as well as custom development. So it can be your personal report and visualization tool. It can also serve as the analytics and decision engine for group projects, divisions, or entire corporations.
For any company using Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI is fundamental to the overall value proposition. In a day where data is far more plentiful than useful conclusions, it is critical that leaders have the necessary tools to improve decision-making and operate efficiently.
